This past summer we participated in a "textiles tour"
to Peru and Bolivia. It was organized through the Textile Arts Council
(TAC) of the S.F. de Young Museum. In a comfortable group of 15,
I was pleased to find myself only one of two men. Many in the group
knew each other from TAC and had looked forward to this trip for
many years. We were joined by Nancy, a colleague of Jackie's at SJSU,
and Sue, who shared the delights of Berkeley Psych graduate
work with Jackie and now is in Chicago.
The trip took a mostly north-to-south path, starting in Lima and
ending in La Paz. The political and economic conditions in that
region forced assorted changes in the itineraries; there were places
considered must-see for textiles afficionados that we were not able
to get to. However we were hardly deprived.
